I enjoyed desgning my poster about Lorde.

Book Reveiw

Grandpa's Great Escape
I have been reading a book called Grandpa's Great Escape. It is written by David Walliams. David Walliams is a wonderful and hilarious author. In the book a boy called Jack has a Grandpa that has a condition so he thinks he is still in World War 2. He had been sent to an old folks home because of the condition. The old folks home is called Twilight Towers. The nures in Twilight Towers are boys and are mean bulky. The Head person is called Miss Swine. She is evil and has an electric cattle prod that is used for giving old folk a shock that can knock them cold out in just a second! He is trying to make a daring escape from what I call death home. He ends up making a hole in the roof and bringing all the elderly people out of the hole and down to the ground on a chain of ladies nickers! Try reading this series. I bet you would be interested in them!

Google voice search

Today I was learning to use Google Voice Search.

I enjoyed learning how to use Google Voice Search.

I found it challenging to find the things I wanted to search because Google was coming up with lots of different searches.

My digital learning object shows there I can use Google Voice Search, copy and paste somthing onto a slide and take a screenshot.

Next time I would like to be confident about what I'm saying.

Rugby World Cup

The Rugby World Cup
The Rugby World Cup has started! My school is celebrating it by getting dressed up in black and white. I came dressed up in a black, long skirt, a white spotted scarf, some black leggings and black socks. At school we were allowed to have some face paint. We got a senior to paint our faces. On my face I had a silver fern on each cheek and the sign that meant the Rugby World Cup on my chin.  We also blacked out our tables. We got black paper and drew All Blacks signs.

Cross Country

On the seventeenth of September we had  cross country. I came second place, my friend got first and my other friend got third. I think I did well in the cross country because I'm not a keen runner but I had to push hard to come second place.
Here is a photo of my friends and I with our certificates:

Soil In Science

We did an experiment! It was called Whats In My Soil?
Here is my procedure for the experiment:

Kon-tiki

My reading group read a story called Kon - tiki. Its about a person called Thor Heyerdahl who made the raft with his crew. It was made out nine balsa logs lashed together with hemp rope. They were going to sail from Lima, Peru to the Polynesian Islands. Lots of people thought that the raft wouldn't make it but guess what, they made it! We made our own Kon-tiki so we could imagine what it was like when Thor Heyerdahl and his crew were sailing. I don't think that the water shows huge waves!  I made mine with a friend. We sailed them in a paddling pool. I think that my raft would sail to the Polynesain islands. My raft was the only one who sailed with a sail on it.

Osmosis

                                                                  Osmosis
In Science we did an experiment. We got some dye and placed a daffodil in it. Then we left it over night and in the morning we saw that the daffodil had absorbed the dye and it was showing in the petals. The scientific name for this is osmosis. It shows us how flowers get their water to grow. After we drew the daffodil.

Here is my art of the osmosis.

My digital learning object shows I can work with a buddy and use comments to talk to each other to make a character.
Next time I would change my comments into better comments so my buddy knows what I'm doing.

Perants VS Kids!

Thursday! Yay! We're going to play a game of soccer against our parents. Its going to be a forty minute game. We're going to have yellow and red cards there's also going to be
penalties. I'm pumped up and ready to have a funny, exciting game. Lets go! I love getting in the game and attacking the other team. Sometimes I tripped some of the parents over by accident but it was only because I was hungry for the ball. The parents normally got the yellow and red cards because they played dangerously and sometimes tackled the other team! We won by one goal. The parents scored one goal and we scored two or three. I was worn out after that long game I think the parents were too!

Vikings

Last week and this week we have been painting pictures of a histoical event. I painted a picture of a Viking boat with two Vikings in it. To go with our painting we wrote a report about the histoical event that we chose. Here is mine.

                                                         Vikings

Vikings came from Sweden,Denmark and Norway. They travelled to lots of countries to help settle them. The Vikings used many boats like rowing boats and warships. Most Vikings stored tools in chests that they would need for fighting. This was kept under the deck or used for sitting on. At sea when it was time to sleep they slept in cosy oilskin sleeping bags. The Vikings slept in these because they would stay dry at night when it was raining. In their boats they ate hard bread, dried fish, meat, oats and fruit.
Vikings didn’t know very much about kindness so they burnt down churches and stole lots of precious belongings from that country. They never sailed in the same boat all the time. The Vikings would buy or borrow boats from other countries they had visited. In their boats they sailed through wild howling winds and calm breezy winds. Sometimes they sailed in crisp flaky air.
A Viking toilet is a long drop, but this long drop has one problem. It only had a wall so you didn’t have privacy. They could still see your head. How embarrassing!
Some Vikings sailed home but some kept going and were ready to conquer England!
The Vikings got many scars from battles. Skulls were found on the ground  of those who had died in a fight.
A Vikings favourite weapons were: A spear, battle axe, sword and an arrow.
When they went home Vikings loved a midsummer festival. There was dangerous axe throwing, heavy stone lifting, unaimed target shooting and even backwards horse riding!

Book Reveiw

Flotsam And Jetsam by Tanya Landman

Read this to find out! This week I read a book called Flotsam And Jetsam.  I read the introduction and  thought it sounded funny! The chapters were were named, not numbered.
Flotsam and Jetsam are tiny creatures that are made of beach rubbish.
There were a lot of problems. One was a seagull.  The seagull was not nice at all. That bad bird dumped droppings on the up turned boat ( their house) and just ignored them when they politely asked for it to go away! Eventually it flew off after they sprayed it with a washed up water bottle.
About Flotsam and Jetsam:
Jetsam has seaweed hair and his nose is a piece of arched metal. His legs and arms are bits of rope and his body is bendy planks of drift wood Flotsam has the same body. Flotsam is bald and also has rope arms and legs.

Winter Poem

Today I was learning to make a poem and screencast it. It was funny when we saw that our cast wasn't very good!
I enjoyed looking at how our screencast looked and what mistakes we made.

The Three Toed Sloth

In reading we were using  phrases and sententes from a you tube to help us make a story.

A three toed sloth. She's ravenously hungry. She is searching for leaves of the rainforest. The leaves are rubbery, tough and full of toxins. Their indigestible and lacking in energy. But this doesn't stop the sloth! With large multi stomachs she is mixing with bacteria and are able to digest the leaves. But she have the slowest digestion of any mammal. So it could take her two weeks to digest just one meal. She has two choices she either eats more or does less. Guess what? She does less. Her whole lifestyle is to use as little energy as possible.

Planting Garlic

Garlic planting

For Matariki, on the shortest day of 2019 we planted garlic. The garlic should be planted between April and August. We sprinkled lime on the soil. Then we broke the bulb into cloves and pressed the cloves into the well dug soil. Garlic likes to be about 5cm deep in the dirt with their  pointy end facing upwards. That is where the shoots come up. Gently we placed them in the soft soil. Our teacher and our gardening teacher calved trenches in the soil for our garlic to be installed into. We fetched one clove at a time then cleverly parked it into the trenches.

Never do this!

Never eat garlic that has been treated because there are nasty things in their that are not good for humans. Only eat garlic out of your garden.

Frost!

Frost!
All night the spiders wove.
With dewy vines hanging down
from the tree their web sits in.
We calve handprints on the tops of tables.
Plus our fingers go numb because of the bleakness.
The webs of spiders add to trees with their beauty!
Also the leaves drop on flocks as white as goats.

The Beaut Ukes Performance!

On the 14th of June The Beaut Ukes performed at the War Mermorial Theatre,
I was waiting back stage when Scott called us up on stage. All of a sudden my nerves ran out of me and the excitment rushed into me. I could see people, people and more people.
I started playing and felt happness of being up on stage.
We were qutie a small group but we still kept the volume. I smiled And sang loudly at the same time. I didn't really move my feet probably because I was a bit stage shocked.
When I was finished I felt proud when mum told me I did well.

I am good at climbing trees and I enjoy playing soccer. I also enjoy mathematics. Sometimes it is hard because sometimes I don't understand what book work is telling me. My goals are to get better at math and the challenges it gives me.

I am looking forward to soccer this weekend. I am also looking forward to getting my blog because then I can do a lots of posts and everyone can see what I'm doing. The person that inspires is Bear Grylls. He is an amazing explorer who takes on amazing expeditions.
