In My Street

Last week we read a poem called in my street. It talked about what different houses and buildings that are along the authors street and in the inviroment. This inspired us to make some artwork. Today I finished my art.
My houses are random. They are not the houses in the poem or my street.

Which is your favourite?

Ag Day

Today I was learning how to make a sandsaucer and lead my lamb.

I enjoyed building my wind chime, sandsaucer and plant holder to put into competion.

I found it challenging to decide on what flowers I was going to place in the centre of the sandsaucer.

My digital learning object shows that I took time to make the entries and practice leading my lamb.

Next time I would like to plant a plant that hangs over the side of my plant holder.

Book Reveiw

Grandpa's Great Escape
I have been reading a book called Grandpa's Great Escape. It is written by David Walliams. David Walliams is a wonderful and hilarious author. In the book a boy called Jack has a Grandpa that has a condition so he thinks he is still in World War 2. He had been sent to an old folks home because of the condition. The old folks home is called Twilight Towers. The nures in Twilight Towers are boys and are mean bulky. The Head person is called Miss Swine. She is evil and has an electric cattle prod that is used for giving old folk a shock that can knock them cold out in just a second! He is trying to make a daring escape from what I call death home. He ends up making a hole in the roof and bringing all the elderly people out of the hole and down to the ground on a chain of ladies nickers! Try reading this series. I bet you would be interested in them!

Smart Media

Today I was learning how to know what was Media and what devices carry it.

I enjoyed designing my newspaper that I was reading. I also enjoyed making a frame and colouring it.

I found it challenging to decide what I was going to write on the newspaper.  It was challenging  to find my image when I removed the backround.

My digital learning object shows that I can use a device and remove a backround off an image.

Next time I would change the newspaper into a book so I'm reading some different media.

Rugby World Cup

The Rugby World Cup
The Rugby World Cup has started! My school is celebrating it by getting dressed up in black and white. I came dressed up in a black, long skirt, a white spotted scarf, some black leggings and black socks. At school we were allowed to have some face paint. We got a senior to paint our faces. On my face I had a silver fern on each cheek and the sign that meant the Rugby World Cup on my chin.  We also blacked out our tables. We got black paper and drew All Blacks signs.

Cross Country

On the seventeenth of September we had  cross country. I came second place, my friend got first and my other friend got third. I think I did well in the cross country because I'm not a keen runner but I had to push hard to come second place.
Here is a photo of my friends and I with our certificates:

Kon-tiki

My reading group read a story called Kon - tiki. Its about a person called Thor Heyerdahl who made the raft with his crew. It was made out nine balsa logs lashed together with hemp rope. They were going to sail from Lima, Peru to the Polynesian Islands. Lots of people thought that the raft wouldn't make it but guess what, they made it! We made our own Kon-tiki so we could imagine what it was like when Thor Heyerdahl and his crew were sailing. I don't think that the water shows huge waves!  I made mine with a friend. We sailed them in a paddling pool. I think that my raft would sail to the Polynesain islands. My raft was the only one who sailed with a sail on it.

Osmosis

                                                                  Osmosis
In Science we did an experiment. We got some dye and placed a daffodil in it. Then we left it over night and in the morning we saw that the daffodil had absorbed the dye and it was showing in the petals. The scientific name for this is osmosis. It shows us how flowers get their water to grow. After we drew the daffodil.

Here is my art of the osmosis.

Coments With A Buddy

Today I was learning how to make a character and use coments to cumumacate with a buddy.
I enjoyed talking to my buddy in comments. It was fun when we saw how we could make a character together.
I found it challenging to make the character when I did not know what my buddy was making. It was also hard at the start to decide on which shape we were going to start with
My digital learning object shows I can work with a buddy and use comments to talk to each other to make a character.
Next time I would change my comments into better comments so my buddy knows what I'm doing.

Vikings

Last week and this week we have been painting pictures of a histoical event. I painted a picture of a Viking boat with two Vikings in it. To go with our painting we wrote a report about the histoical event that we chose. Here is mine.

                                                         Vikings

Vikings came from Sweden,Denmark and Norway. They travelled to lots of countries to help settle them. The Vikings used many boats like rowing boats and warships. Most Vikings stored tools in chests that they would need for fighting. This was kept under the deck or used for sitting on. At sea when it was time to sleep they slept in cosy oilskin sleeping bags. The Vikings slept in these because they would stay dry at night when it was raining. In their boats they ate hard bread, dried fish, meat, oats and fruit.
Vikings didn’t know very much about kindness so they burnt down churches and stole lots of precious belongings from that country. They never sailed in the same boat all the time. The Vikings would buy or borrow boats from other countries they had visited. In their boats they sailed through wild howling winds and calm breezy winds. Sometimes they sailed in crisp flaky air.
A Viking toilet is a long drop, but this long drop has one problem. It only had a wall so you didn’t have privacy. They could still see your head. How embarrassing!
Some Vikings sailed home but some kept going and were ready to conquer England!
The Vikings got many scars from battles. Skulls were found on the ground  of those who had died in a fight.
A Vikings favourite weapons were: A spear, battle axe, sword and an arrow.
When they went home Vikings loved a midsummer festival. There was dangerous axe throwing, heavy stone lifting, unaimed target shooting and even backwards horse riding!
